Juemei (Jamie) Yang, Founder, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist

Jamie Yang is the founder of Magnolia Counseling Therapy. She holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology and completed her postdoctoral hours at the University of Michigan in 2017. She is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Michigan and has more than 18 years of clinical experience working in university counseling centers, group practices, and private practice settings.
Many clients are drawn to Jamie for her warm, grounded presence and her ability to provide steady, reliable support during difficult times. She is bilingual and offers psychotherapy in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
Whether you are navigating an especially challenging period in your life or seeking personal growth and greater fulfillment, Jamie works collaboratively with clients to help them face life’s challenges and find a sustainable path forward.
Her areas of clinical focus include depression, anxiety, eating disorders, parent–child relationships, parenting challenges, adolescent development, couples and relationship issues, family-of-origin concerns, interpersonal communication, career development, workplace stress, LGBTQ+ issues, challenges faced by international students and scholars, perfectionism, cross-cultural experiences, multicultural concerns, and trauma.
Jamie’s therapeutic approach is integrative and emphasizes multicultural awareness, mindfulness, and acceptance. She helps clients clarify what is within their control and what is not, supporting them in changing what can be changed while learning to accept and release what cannot.
She also assists clients in identifying their most deeply held values and goals, and in aligning their behaviors more closely with those values. By integrating self-compassion, solution-focused strategies, and evidence-based frameworks—including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)—Jamie helps clients access their inner strength and wisdom, navigate challenging relationships, pursue meaningful goals, and experience greater overall well-being.
